Dissociation constant for physical chemistry testing

Dissociation of a chemical determines how it behaves and is transported in the environment, with implications for adsorption on soils and into non-target cells. For regulatory submissions, it is described by the dissociation constant (pKa) of a chemical in water at 20 degrees centigrade. pKa is determined in accordance with OECD 112 and EPA OPPTS 830.7370 guidelines. These specify which method is to be used, depending on the properties of the chemical: titration against a standard acid or base, spectrophotometry or conductometry.
