Laminectomy: Lumbar (intrathecal)

Drug concentrations in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are typically used as a surrogate measure of their availability in the central nervous system (CNS). In animal studies, CSF penetration studies is used for assessment of CNS drug delivery in early preclinical drug development.

The protocol involves hemilaminectomy of the 4th vertebra to expose the spinal cord and catheterization of the intrathecal space. Ten collections/day at 0.2-0.3ml based on protocol design and duration between collections.

The procedure can provide access for CSF collection for up to 1 year.
