Necropsy procedures & testing
Specialist skills, supported by the wider pathology team, allows for examination of and tissue sampling on a wide range of species in a variety of procedures.
Representative procedures include
- Weighing tissue samples and placing in appropriate fixatives
- Recording examination of tissues and organs, including photographs
- Freezing tissue samples
- Bone marrow smears
- Sampling of tissue for electron microscopy or polymerase chain reaction
Access to specialists includes developmental and reproductive study specialists, fetal pathologists and sperm analysts.
